They had challenged her when she tried to leave through a side exit, The Mail on Sunday reported.

It claimed the theft in September was captured on film.

The woman was seen on the beauty floor by security staff who were wearing body cameras.

She then walked down stairs heading for the exit.

She is said to have told staff there was a misunderstanding when she was apprehended.

The security tag is believed to have been removed from the bracelet.

The woman was allegedly recognised after she was previously spotted pocketing make-up samples.

Staff at the London store, which has two royal warrants, are said to know of her connection to the Royal Family.

The aide was said to have been with a fellow employee who was not aware of the theft.

She has remained in her job and is not expected to face action.

Fortnum & Mason did not comment.
