Five ways to create a spooky Halloween costume on a budget

CHARITY shops are the perfect place to put together a spooky Halloween costume on a limited budget.

You may be lucky to snap up a complete second-hand fright night outfit from the fancy dress rail.

But it’s even more fun to pull together your own scary look. Here are some ideas to get you started.

BIG DAY OF THE DEAD: A zombie bride is one of the easiest looks to style from a charity shop.

You could get lucky and find a cheap wedding or bridesmaid’s dress, but a prom gown or evening frock is likely to be better value.

Add rips and fake blood stains, then go all out on some scary make-up.

SO LONG, CELEBS: Dress up as the ghost of your favourite celebrity.

You get to be a gorgeous Marilyn Monroe or Elvis, but in a hauntingly good way.

Add pale white make-up for a ghostly look that will guarantee your star is still a hit, years after they died.

BANK THE LOOK: Dress as a bank robber for the night.

Second-hand stores always have a black and white T-shirt in stock.

Add black jeans or leggings, a black beanie hat and an eye mask.

Adapt a black face mask or a piece of black card for the eye mask. For your swag bag, use an old white pillowcase and write on “loot” with a marker.

Stuff it with scrunched paper for a bag full of cash.

LOOKS ALL WHITE: A spooky snow queen is a simple look to put together.

Find an old white or icy blue dress in a charity shop and add a veil or cloak in a similar colour.

Anything with sparkles will add a touch of drama. Top with a second-hand tiara — or make your own — and add ghostly white make-up, along with a generous sprinkling of glitter.

MAX THE MISERY: Look out for accessories like hats, beads and lacy shawls in charity shops.

They can all add that extra something to a Halloween outfit.

Ghoulish make-up, fake blood and a few wispy cobwebs from a cheap high street store are also your fright night friend.
