The show is known for exploring the relationship between humans and technology, and has even been said to 'predict the future' with some uncanny episodes that gave a glimpse into gadgets that had not been invented yet.

Black Mirror disappeared from screens for four years during the Covid pandemic, with some fans speculating that real life had become too dystopian for the show to work.

But the sixth season came back with a bang earlier this year, shooting to the Top 10 most viewed Netflix shows globally.

Now Variety has confirmed a new season of the show has been greenlit and is expected to go into production later this year.

Creator Charlie Brooker will be working on the new installment, alongside returning producers Annabel Jones and Jessica Rhoades.

The number of episodes in season seven is unknown as of yet, and the plot for each story is being kept hush hush.

The latest season featured A-list actors such as Salma Hayek and Josh Hartnett, and provided the usual mix of gut-wrenching to fantastical content.

One episode gave a glimpse into what the isolation of space travel might do to the minds of astronauts when they only have a virtual link with their families back on earth.

Another fan favourite, Loch Henry, examined the exploitative nature of true crime documentaries.
