Strictly Come Dancing 2023 live — Angela Scanlon eliminated from show as Bobby sails through after Jade Goody tribute

The secret Strictly curse that hits Blackpool every series
- Strictly’s fiercest backstage feuds
- Where original Strictly professional dancers are now
- Who is Strictly pro dancer Nikita Kuzmin?

ANGELA Scanlon has become the latest celebrity to be voted off from Strictly Come Dancing after ending up in the dreaded dance off.

The star was up against Layton Williams and fans were shocked to see the actor in the dance-off.

Three of the judges voted for Layton and Nikita meaning Angela missed out on a quarter-final spot.

It comes as Bobby Brazier made it through after he paid an emotional tribute to his mum Jade Goody on Strictly Come Dancing last night and said he was "so proud of her".

TV personality Goody died when Brazier was just four years old.

He said he would "love to spend a day with her ... just to see where I get my smile from".

  • 'I'm no good and dance like a tense newsreader'

BBC Breakfast’s Sally Nugent has given a bleak Strictly update.

The 52-year-old journalist was last week revealed as one of the six celebrities taking part in this year's festive special.

  • What is the story of the song Bobby Brazier danced to on Strictly?

While most people are aware of Maxwell's version of This Woman's Work, the song was written by Kate Bush.

It was the second single to be taken from Bush's album The Sensual World and peaked at Number 25 in the singles chart in 1989.

Initially featured on the soundtrack of the American film She's Having a Baby, it was also the backdrop to a scene in Extras, written by and starring Ricky Gervais.

Due to the song's inclusion, the song entered the UK chart once again at Number 121 in the week ending 5 January 2008, rising to 76 the following week.

  • 'He is a superstar' - the new fan favourite on Strictly

It looks like Bobby Brazier has won the hearts of TV viewers after his emotional tribute to mum Jade Goody on Saturday night's Strictly.

Here is more reaction to that performance:

  • Who is still in the running to win Strictly?

Strictly Come Dancing 2023 started off with 15 famous faces.

Every week they are slowly whittled down until there are three left in the grand final.

The stars who are still in the competition are:

  • Jeff Brazier hails son's ' incredible courage' after emotional Jade Goody tribute

Bobby Brazier's father, Jeff, hailed his son after the actor and model performed an emotional tribute to Jade Goody.

Writing on Instagram last night, Jeff said: "To share your grief even to just one person can be a daunting prospect but to express it so movingly in front of millions takes incredible courage so thank you for your inspiration @bobbybrazier!

"Encouraging many a conversation about loss & giving people an outlet for the tears they might find hard to release is a wonderful legacy of your time in the competition so far.

"You said something in the VT about making me proud of you? You and your brother achieved that a long time ago. Don’t forget I’ve seen the journey and you both have my lifelong support & unwavering respect."

  • Anton's comments on 'closest dance-off' of the series

Judges Craig Revel HorwoodMotsi Mabuse and Anton Du Beke chose to save Layton Williams and professional Nikita Kuzmin after they re-performed an American Smooth routine to It's Oh So Quiet by Bjork.

Anton said: "I don't think either couple danced as well as they can. It was the closest dance off we've had in the series so far.

"This is the only thing, I saw an error from one of the couples, so I'm going to vote to keep in to the quarter-finals, Layton and Nikita."

  • What were the scores on Saturday night?

    1. Ellie Leach and Vito Coppola (9+10+10+9) = 38
    2. Bobby Brazier and Dianne Buswell (8+9+10+10) = 37
    3. Annabel Croft and Johannes Radebe (8+9+9+10) = 36
    4. Layton Williams and Nikita Kuzmin (8+9+8+9) = 34
    5. Nigel Harman and Katya Jones (8+8+8+9) = 33
    6. Angela Scanlon and Carlos Gu (7+7+8+9) = 31

Ultimately, Angela's bottom-placed performance would see her head home on Sunday.

  • Ellie Leach says dad 'loves' Vito

Ellie Leach added to the romance rumours surrounding her and pro-partner Vito once again this weekend.

Speaking to host Claudia Winkleman during Sunday's results show, Ellie said her dad "loves" the Italian dancer.

She said: "My dad is usually a man of few words and he rarely shows any emotion but every week he messages me and is like 'so proud of you, crying again' like welling up.

"And he's just been so amazing and such support, it's been nice to know that I'm making him proud."

    Ellie added: "He loves Vito."

  • Layton Williams on ‘pushing boundaries’

Layton Williams has said he enjoys “pushing the boundaries” on Strictly despite receiving some criticism.

He said: “I feel like we’ve always come out and kind of like done something potentially a little bit more out there pushing the boundaries… we’ve thrown in this and that… and there’s always an element of surprise.

Referring to his performance last week, he added: “Why shouldn’t we be swinging from poles and living our best lives? It went down pretty (well) if you ask me so I’m really proud and I stand by it, it’s also a couple’s choice. Get into it.”

  • 'I'm so proud'

Carlos Gu had nothing but praise for Angela Scanlon following her Strictly exit last night.

Gu said she has worked "so hard" during her time on the dance competition.

And added: "Look at her now - I am so proud, her sense of humour and we had so much fun everyday - she cracks me up laughing."

  • 'I'm gutted, really gutted'

Speaking after being dumped from Strictly last night, Angela Scanlon said she was "gutted" to say goodbye, but her experience on the show was "incredible."

She said: "It's been honestly incredible, I'm gutted, really gutted that it's finished now, but it has been the most wonderful experience.

"I have made the best friend in this man (Carlos).

"We have had so much fun, he is such an incredible guy.

"He has supported me and picked me up and made me laugh so much.

"I don't know what to say, it's been magical honestly - all of those people up there.

"My husband at home, my two little girls and all my friends."

  • Who is still in it to win it?

Strictly Come Dancing 2023 started off with 15 famous faces.

Every week they are slowly whittled down until there are three left in the grand final.

The stars who are still in the competition are:

  • What did Bobby say about his emotional performance?

Bobby Brazier paid an emotional tribute to his late mum, Jade Goody, over the weekend.

His striking performance left fans in tears as honoured his beloved mother.

Speaking before taking to the dancefloor, he said: "This dance is a tribute to my mum. The story we're going to tell is the story of her and I.

"My mum was Jade Goody and she was a famous TV personality who became a household name.

"She passed away when I was just five. It changed my life completely.

"I'd love to spend a day with her, just to see where I get my smile from."

  • Who has left Strictly so far?

Every Sunday, the BBC show waves goodbye to one more celebrity.

    Week eight: Krishnan Guru-Murthy

    Week seven: Adam Thomas

    Week six: Zara McDermott

  • Ellie Leach firm favourite to win Strictly 2023

Ellie Leach has now become the firm favourite among Bookies to take home this year’s Glitterball trophy.

Alex Apati of Ladbrokes said: “Ellie has gone from strength to strength this series; she’s a shoo-in for this year’s Glitterball Trophy, as far as the odds are concerned.”

With just five celebs left, she leads Bobby Brazier in the race to be crowned champion:

    • Ellie Leach – 2/7
    • Bobby Brazier – 10/1
    • Layton Williams – 12/1
    • Nigel Harman – 12/1
    • Annabel Croft – 16/1
  • How to watch Strictly Come Dancing abroad

You’ll first need to download a VPN, such as ExpressVPN or NordVPN onto the device you’ll be streaming iPlayer from.

Then, load the VPN and select a UK server, which will (legally) reroute your IP address to the UK.

You’ll then be able to head to iPlayer and stream Strictly Come Dancing with no trouble.

  • When did Bill Bailey win Strictly?

Bill Bailey and Oti Mabuse were crowned the winners of Strictly Come Dancing in 2020.

After performances from HRVY, Maisie Smith and Jamie Laing, entertainer Bill became the eldest contestant to ever take home the Giltterball trophy.

Announcing the result as the spectacular nine-week series came to an end, host Tess Daly said: “The moment we’ve all been waiting for… the Strictly champions of 2020 are Bill and Oti.”

Champion Bill said: “It feels surreal, extraordinary and wonderful.

“I never thought we would get this far. I never thought we’d get to the final.

“I’ve had the most extraordinary teacher and the most extraordinary dancer.

“Someone who has believed in me right from the beginning. She found something.”

  • How can you vote?

To vote online for Strictly Come Dancing, you will firstly need to register – or if you have BBC account already set up from last year, you can just sign in.

Waltz – or rumba – over to the Strictly homepage. When the vote is open the link to vote will appear at the top of the page.

The couples will be listed in alphabetical order. Select the button next to their names and click “vote now” to submit your choice.

And you’re able to vote more than once, although there is an upper limit on how many times you can vote per episode.

There is no charge for voting online.

  • What is Shirley Ballas’s net worth?

Shirley’s estimated net worth is around £4M.

Shirley joined Strictly in 2017 and was paid £180,000 by the BBC for that series.

This was £70,000 short of the amount given to her predecessor Len Goodman for the same role.

However, in 2022 The Sun revealed how she now gets paid £500K per Strictly series.

  • Fans spot 'racey' comment from Vito after 'near kiss' with Ellie

Rumours of a romance between Vito and Ellie Leach have been swirling since this year's series began and last night's steamy performance will do nothing to dissuade viewers of their blossoming bond.

The pair raised eyebrows after sharing a "near-kiss" moment during their Tango routine.

Talking to host Claudia Winkleman after their performance, Vito was asked about the amount of control needed for the dance.

He explained: "So much control, it was difficult as coming from last week, she was so spread out with everything and this one you have to keep everything in.

"There is a ball of fire between us and I said "look at me and eat me with your eyes".

  • Strictly fans slam judges as Nigel is undermarked

Fans have once again fumed at Nigel Harman's score, claiming the show is "fixed."

Nigel received praise from the judges but ultimately earned the second-to-lowest score, leading fans to say he'd been undermarked.

Taking to X to discuss the result, one person wrote: “So Layton gets criticised and scores 34, Nigel hardly gets any criticism but only scores 33? Make it make sense. Why do they ALWAYS under mark Nigel, it’s getting beyond a joke now.”

A second added: “Nigel's been stitched up again judges gave no mistakes but still undermarked. Hope audience vote saves him from dance off, was amazing tonight deserved higher spot & saving this week.”
