We hate our neighbour’s ‘gingerbread’ door with Christmas decorations – it makes our street look ‘tasteless & tacky’

Hannah has bounced back stronger this year despite the criticism

RESIDENTS complaining about a neighbour's "gingerbread" door with Christmas decorations say it makes their street look "tasteless and tacky".

Angry locals have blasted Hannah Cox for putting up a flashy display in her front door in Minehead, Somerset.

Hannah, who started decorating her front door in June 2022, fills her entrance with a different theme every year and uses faux materials so they can be reused.

But despite the festive joy, the young mum has been blasted by other residents.

The 31-year-old said she has been faced by neighbours in a frosty row over her "over the top" decorations.

She said: “When the neighbours knocked on the door, they asked what the display was and why I was doing it.

“Their complaint was along the lines of 'it's a bit over the top' and ‘tacky’ for a neighbourhood such as ours."

Despite the fury, Hannah said the backlash is not stopping her from decorating her home.

This year, Hannah has splashed £500 to crate a gingerbread bakery -themed door.

And the professional wreath maker said she doesn't care what others think.

Hannah added: “Christmas is meant to be magical and fun. I wanted to do the Grinch as a comeback but I thought I might run into copyright issues so plumped for the gingerbread theme.

“I want the display to be even bigger this year and will probably add some more decorations around my windows.

“It's not to everyone's taste but I put in a lot of effort to make it look super festive and fun.”

However, other neighbours disagree with the criticism and are impressed by her creativity.

Fellow resident Caroline Cape, 63, said Hannah’s decoration for this year was one of the best she had produced.

She said: “Hannah is amazingly talented and what she produces not just at Christmas but throughout the year is fantastic.

“It’s her way of brightening up her street as well as showcasing her business.

“Anyone who has a problem with it should come and have a word with me and I’ll put them straight.”

Tony Belvoir was also supportive of Hannah's decorating and said his grandchildren loved to see what she had created.

The 66-year-old said: “Why can’t people just accept that here is a young woman who is doing her best to make her neighbourhood fun?

“My grandchildren love coming around every year to see what Hannah has created and as far as I’m concerned she can carry on decorating.

“Those having a go at her efforts are just Scrooge-like figures who don’t know the meaning of the word Christmas.”

It comes after homeowners were complaining about a neighbour's "bizarre" mosaic house and said looks "juvenile" and as if it's covered in graffiti.

Locals are mounting protests against the eye-catching mural covering a building in well-to-do Chiswick in west London.

The colourful landmark in leafy Chiswick is believed to be lived in by a group of artists progressively transforming it over the past 20 years.

Elsewhere, a man who's spent £5,000 covering his home in 10,000 Christmas lights has revealed the clever money-saving hack which keeps his energy bills down.

Naylan Dane Thomas has splashed the cash on giving his Wales home an extravagant festive transformation for the third year in a row.
