‘Special’ horse that burned up Newbury gallop set to be unleashed by master trainer

THE much anticipated hurdling debut of one of Nicky Henderson's potential stars doesn't look far away.

Owned by JP McManus, Jeriko Du Reponet burned up the gallops at Newbury last week.

He left the 154-rated Dusart for dust at the gallops morning and punters have been eagerly awaiting his hurdling debut.

Jeriko Du Reponet is already 16-1 for the Supreme Novices' Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival and he could be a whole lot shorter should be bolt up this weekend.

He holds a pair of entries at Newbury, a place where Henderson unleashed Willmount earlier this season.

The first is over 2m on Friday, while he also has an option over 2m4f on Saturday.

It seems more likely that he'll take up the Friday engagement, given the hopes connections hold for him.

In his RacingTV stable tour Henderson said Jeriko Du Reponet is "a gorgeous horse that catches his eye every day".

On the gallops morning, Henderson said: "This is his first piece of work on the gallops for us and he was excellent.

"Dusart works with a lot of ours and he couldn't keep up which surprised me. He could be a bit special."

He could well be aimed at the Supreme, a race that Henderson has made his own in recent years.

The stable has won three of the last eight runnings with Altior, Shishkin and Constitution Hill.
